I’m Katie Mazurek: a 35-year-old mother of 2 who was diagnosed with breast cancer on February 9, 2016. I also practice Collaborative family law where I help families through divorce and I seriously love my work. I launched my own firm, Element Law Group in Bozeman, MT on February 4, 2016.

I have been married to an amazing, giving, totally supportive, smart, sexy, selfless man, Tom Mazurek, for 10 years. We met when I moved to Big Sky, MT to work for “one season” 11 years ago. Seeing him for the first time was like being hit by lightening. He is the kindest, most honest person I’ve ever known and he has absolutely made me a better person. Somehow, I got lucky enough that he chose me, too. Having a man like him by my side is like winning the lottery- only better. He’s one of the best things I have going for me at any given time and that is especially true now.

My girls are now 3 and 7 and no, I don’t know how that happened so fast. Elle is my oldest and she is just like her dad and every bit as independent, smart and tough. Sophie is my youngest. She is clever and snuggly and sweet. They are really good kids and I will unabashedly admit they are the most beautiful humans on the planet.
I’ve been a runner, a triathlete, a rower, and Nordic skier, and outdoor lover for years. I’ve trained for 3 half-ironman races (70.3 miles) and abused my body and strengthened my mind in the pursuit of personal achievement. It is quite possible that I have voluntarily signed up for something more grueling than cancer…or at least I’m going into this with some confidence in my mental and physical strength that should carry me through quite a ways.
Finally, I have to say that I have the most amazing friends and family a girl could hope for. Our parents and siblings are deeply caring and supportive- as are the family we’ve chosen along the way. If you have to go to battle, it feels good to go with an army like mine. I love you all and thank you so much for your support and inspiration.

Note: Larry Stanley has generously and so kindly agreed to document this process for us. He took stunning and touching pictures of our wedding and I could not be more proud to display his work throughout this blog. If you’d like to support me, please consider supporting his talent as he is donating his time to us. I promise you will be left with pictures you will cherish your whole life.
